What an LMS platform costs New Zealand corporates and PTEs

A New Zealand corporate or PTE needs a learning management system (LMS) platform that keeps training current and shows who has done what. Published prices for those platforms start at about $4,900 a year and pass $40,000 for 500 users. Capability Solutions builds and hosts one for $500 to set up and $160 a month plus GST.

The short answer

On the published price lists, a hosted LMS platform for 100 to 500 learners costs a New Zealand organisation somewhere between $4,900 and $42,380 a year. Totara, set up by a partner, can cost $50,000 in the first year. Having a developer build an LMS from nothing starts at about $89,000 before it is hosted anywhere.

We set up an LMS for $500 and host it for $160 a month plus GST. The monthly fee covers full hosting and all the emails the system sends, including sign in links and reminders. That is $2,420 in the first year and $1,920 a year after that.

Corporates

A corporate needs to see who has completed each course, who is due to renew, and a certificate it can show an auditor or a client. We give it its own branded LMS with every staff member's completions, certificates and renewal dates in one place.

Staff are enrolled in bulk from a spreadsheet and sign in by an emailed link. Managers download progress for any course, and reminder emails go out before training lapses. If you use SiteKey for site access, SiteKey checks that training before anyone signs in at the gate.

Private training establishments

A PTE gets a platform under its own name, holding its learners' completions and certificates, with a certificate link an employer can check.

Totara publishes no prices. Its figures come from an August 2026 article by EducateMe, another LMS vendor, quoting an analyst. The custom build range comes from Cleveroad, a software developer, in June 2026. TalentLMS sells smaller plans for less, with fewer users or features.

What pushes the price up

Most platforms price by the number of learners. TalentLMS steps up at 100 users and again at 500, and its Pro plan adds US$6 for each user over 500. iSpring charges per user on every plan it publishes, so its bill roughly doubles between 100 and 300 learners.

Setup can sit outside the headline price. The Totara onboarding figure above sits on top of the licence, and a partner adds hosting to its own quote.
